Abilio dos Santos Diniz Net Worth: Abilio dos Santos Diniz is a Brazilian retailer who has a net worth of $4 billion. Born on 28 Decembre 1936 in Sao Paulo, Abilio dos Santos Diniz made his fortune as the Chairman of Companhia Brasileira de Distribuicao (CBD), Brazil's leading retailing company. In 1948, his father Valentim, a Portuguese immigrant, started Pao de Acucar as a bakery. Upon his graduation from the University in Sao Paulo in 1959, Ablio helped his father in turning the family business into a multimillion-dollar chain of retail CBD. An event that marked Ablio's life was his kidnapping in December 1989, by Canadian extremists that held him underground for a week until the federal police set him free. The kidnapping happed on the same day as the first Brazilian democratic president election, and many found some connection between the two. After his kidnapping, Ablio returned a single-minded man who succeeded in selling a large stake to French retailer company Casino Guichard-Perrachon SA for $860 million, stepped down as CEO, but served as Chairman. Moreover, Ablio was actively involved in car racing when he was young, and together with his brother Alcides, they won the 1970 Mil Milhas Brasil. Following in his father's footsteps, his son Pedro Diniz is a former Formula One driver.

He is the former chairman of the Brazilian retail chain Grupo P??o de A????car (Companhia Brasileira de Distribui??ao), and victim of a famous kidnapping. Ab?-lio Diniz is the father of former Formula One driver Pedro Diniz, whose career was largely funded by his father's personal wealth and sponsorship connections. Ab?-lio also competed as a racecar driver in his youth and won 1970 Mil Milhas Brasil with his brother, Alcides. Diniz is currently the chairman of BRF.
Through GPA, Diniz became one of the wealthiest individuals in Brazil. In 2013, Forbes ranked him 363rd richest person in the world and 16th in Brazil with a personal net worth of $3.7 billion.

Diniz's father, Valentim Diniz, founded the company P??o de A????car, which grew into a major retailer, Companhia Brasileira de Distribui??ao. In 2002, Diniz sold a large stake to the French company Casino Group for an estimated $860 million and stepped down as CEO, but remained as chairman. In 2009, in one of the most expensive transactions of the Brazilian business history, Grupo P??o de A????car bought Casas Bahia from Samuel Klein, giving Abilio control of P??o de A????car, Casas Bahia, Ponto Frio and Extra Hipermercados. In 2012, Casino Group took control of Grupo P??o de A????car, and Diniz no longer had operational functions within the group but remained as chairman.
In April 2013, Diniz was elected as chairman of BRF, and in September, he has stepped down as chairman of GPA.
In December 1989, Diniz was the victim of a sensational political kidnapping, followed by a police rescue. He was confined for six days in a small space under a house, with a duct leading to the kitchen fan as his only source of oxygen.
The kidnapping took place in the morning of the Brazilian presidential elections in Brazil in 1989.
