Fernando Valenzuela net worth: Fernando Valenzuela is a Mexican former professional baseball player who has a net worth of $3 million dollars. Fernando Valenzuela was born in Navojoa, Sonora, Mexico, and though his birth date was listed as 1960, there was some question as to whether this was true. He began playing baseball professionally in 1977, pitching for various teams in the Mexican Central League. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1979, and began pitching for them at the end of the 1980 season. He started the season with the Dodgers in 1981, and went on to pitch one of the most successful rookie seasons ever. He was the first player to win both the Cy Young Award and the Rookie of the Year Award, and he became the first rookie to lead the league in strikeouts. He also won the Silver Slugger Award in 1981. He went on to rack up more accolades over the course of his career, but eventually his play became inconsistent. He attempted multiple comebacks, but left Major League Ball for good in 1997. He has since played briefly for the Mexican League, but primarily focuses on Spanish-language sports broadcasting and coaching.
Fernando Valenzuela Anguamea (Spanish pronunciation: [fer??nando ??alen??swela]; born November 1, 1960) is a Mexican former left-handed pitcher, most notably with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
In 1981, the 20-year-old Valenzuela took Los Angeles (and Major League Baseball) by storm, winning his first 8 decisions and leading the Dodgers to the World Championship. That year, Valenzuela became the only player in Major League history to win the Rookie of the Year award and the Cy Young Award in the same season, adding the Silver Slugger Award and World Series championship for good measure. With his youthful charm, devastating screwball, "Ruthian physique", and a connection with Los Angeles' large Latino community, Valenzuela touched off an early '80s craze dubbed "Fernandomania".
Valenzuela was a Dodgers mainstay throughout the 1980s, winning 21 games in 1986 and pitching a no-hitter in 1990, though he was injured during the 1988 championship run. However, he faltered because of injuries in the 1990s, pitching ineffectively for several teams. After one last effective season with the San Diego Padres in 1996 and a short stint with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1997, he retired from Major League Baseball.
Since 2003, Valenzuela has worked as a Spanish-language color commentator for the Dodgers.
Valenzuela, the youngest of twelve children, was born in Etchohuaquila, a small town within the municipality of Navojoa, in the state of Sonora, Mexico. His birth date is officially listed as November 1, 1960, but during his phenomenal rookie season in 1981 several commentators questioned his age, guessing him to be significantly older than twenty.
In 1977, Fernando Valenzuela began his professional baseball career when he signed as a professional player with the Mayos de Navojoa, next year he was sent to the Guanajuato Tuzos of the Mexican Central League, posting a 5???6 record with a 2.23 ERA. The following year, the Mexican Central League was absorbed into the expanded Li
