Jamie Gilinski Bacal Net Worth: Jamie Gilinski Bacal is a Colombian banker and real estate developer who has a net worth of $2.4 billion. Born on December 14, 1957, Jamie Gilinski Bacal made his fortune when he turned his father's wealth into a multi-billion dollar financial group. His father, Isaac, had two businesses, plastic company Rimax and snack foods market Yupi. Holding a BS in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and a MBA from Harvard Business School, Gilinski started his career in Morgan Stanley's M&A unit. When he moved back to Columbia, in the 90s, he bought the Colombian assets of Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) for a normal price. Soon, Gilinski renamed it into Banco Andino, and developed it into one of Colombia's most efficient banks that later he sold for $70 million. Bringing George Soros as an investor, he did the same thing with Banco de Colombia, and in beginning of 2000, Gilinski merged the wo banks in order to form Banco GNB Sudameris, which purchased HSBC's Latin American operations in 2012 for $400 million. In addition to his banks, he is also a real estate developer who will create the Panama Pacifico, 2,750 acres-big area in the suburb of Panama City, in partnership with the Livingstone brothers' London & Regional Properties. Moreover, Gilinski is famous for his philanthropic works supporting various foundations like Fundacion Santa Fe, the Chabad House at Harvard, David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard and many more. Also, he and his wife, Raquel, have started the Jaime and Raquel Gilinski Fellowship at Harvard Business School, giving MBA scholarships to students from Latin America.

Jaime Gilinski earned his B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech in 1978, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1980.
In the 1990s Gilinski acquired the Colombian assets of BCCI (Bank of Credit and Commerce International) for a nominal sum after its global collapse. Renamed Banco Andino,it became one of the most efficient banks in the Colombian banking system within 4 years. The Gilinski Group sold the reconstituted bank for a reported US$70 million.
The family then moved to purchase Banco de Colombia for US $365 Million, in what was then the largest privatization in Colombia's history. Billionaire investor George Soros invested US$ 50 Million along with over 100 European and North American institutional investors. They later sold control of the bank to Banco Industrial Colombiano, and its controlling stakeholder Sindicato Antioque??o, in a deal valued at US$ 800 Million ??? a transaction that ranks among Colombia???s largest. Gilinski received US$ 418 Million for its stake and retained a minority position in the new bank as part of the deal. As of 2011, Bancolombia was the largest bank in Colombia with a market capitalization of US $13 Billion in the NYSE.
In 2003, Jaime Gilinski acquired and subsequently merged Banco Sudameris and Banco Tequendema. This merger created GNB Sudameris, a bank with assets of over US $6 billion that ranks among the top 10 largest banks in Colombia. The purchase of Servibanca, an ATM network with over 2,000 machines, and Suma Valores, a stock exchange commission agent company, has further expanded the network.
