Competitive eater Joey Chestnut has a net worth of $625,000. And while compared to many of the other celebrities on this site, that net worth makes him one of the most successful in the field of competitive eating. Chestnut's career in the world of competitive eating began in 2005, when the young San Jose State University first became ensnared in the unique subculture of competitive eating. His break out performance was in a deep fried asparagus eating competition, in which he placed first by eating nearly six and a half pounds of deep fried asparagus in 11.5 minutes. From there, he entered the famous Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, where he placed third having swallowed 32 hot dogs. Chestnut's eating star continued to rise, defeating Sonya Thomas in the Waffle House World Waffle Eating championship. In his most recent outing at the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, Chestnut earned his fifth straight victory, eating 62 entire hot dogs. However, his win was clouded by fellow competitor Takeru Kobiyashi, who was not an official entrant in the competition due to a technicality, and who beat Chestnut's showing by 7 hot dogs, having eaten 69 hot dogs. No matter who eats more hot dogs, Joey Chestnut is one of the brightest stars in competitive eating.
