Randy Johnson has pitched himself a healthy wet worth of $115 million. In his career Johnson earned over $175 million in salary and endorsements. The former Major League Baseball player, also known as the 'Big Unit', has gained his net worth by being one of the most prominent pitchers in American Baseball history. After 22 years in the profession, Johnson is now retired from the game. Californian-born Johnson was already a baseball and basketball star by the time he entered high school. Johnson went on to play on a Burkovich team, which only picked the best player in California. Whilst attending University of Southern California, his pitching techniques didn't go unnoticed by coach Rod Dedeaux. Johnson's, road to baseball stardom started when he was acquired by Montreal Expos for the 1985 Major League Baseball Draft and three years later, he made his MLB debut. The 6ft 10 player became widely known as the 'most feared pitcher in baseball' because of his dominant pitching technique and his intimidating structure. In 1989, Johnson was traded to Seattle Marines- and he went from strength to strength. A year after joining the team, Johnson became the first-ever left hand pitcher to strike out baseball Legend Wade Boggs three times in a game. Who can forget the infamous 1993 All-Star game? Johnson effortlessly threw a fastball over the Phillies baseman John Kruk's head. This was a momentous incident as it is replayed on sports highlight shows to this present day. Johnson continued to make record-breaking results. After his outstanding performance in the 1994 season, Johnson won the American League Cy Young Award in 1995. His high scores throughout his career were noted as the second highest score in AL history behind Johnny Allen. In the late nineties, Johnson signed a four-year deal (worth $52.4 million) with Arizona Diamondbacks. Whist with Diamondbacks, Johnson won the NL Cy Young Award for each season covered by the lucrative contract. Furthermore Johnson, along with fellow pitcher Curt Schilling, led the Diamondbacks to its first World Series and victory in 2001. The two pitchers were hailed as 'Sportsmen of the Year' by Sports Illustrated. Johnson switched to the New York Yankees in 2005. However his performance with the team was inconsistent, due to back injury and subsequently missed the last part of the 2006 season. When Johnson was on top form, he continued with record-breaking results and this earned him a place in the 2005 book, Baseball's Greatest Players. He was ranked at number 60. Johnson returned to the Diamondbacks in 2007. He was hardly seen on the pitch due to another back injury which resulted in surgery. Now on top form, Johnson made his season debut in 2008 against San Francisco Giants. In this game, he was placed at number two on the all time strike out leaders list, surpassing Roger Clemens. Blown away by his performance with the Diamondbacks, the Giants offered Johnson a one-year deal, worth $8 million plus $2.5 million award bonuses. Naturally Johnson accepted this lucrative offer. At the time of joining the Giants, Johnson was second oldest player in the Major League Baseball. In January 2010, Johnson announced his retirement from the game.

In 1982, as a senior, he struck out 121 batters in 66 innings, and threw a perfect game in his last high school start. He also played on a Bercovich team that assembled top players from throughout California. After high school he was drafted in 1982 by the Atlanta Braves in the 2nd round and offered $50,000 to sign. Instead, Johnson accepted a full athletic scholarship to USC, also playing 2 years of basketball. He continued to start at the University of Southern California under coach Rod Dedeaux, but often exhibited control problems.
Johnson was drafted by the Montreal Expos in the second round of the 1985 Major League Baseball Draft. He made his MLB debut in 1988, and pitched in a total of 11 games for the Expos in 1988 and 1989.
