Steven Segal is an American martial artist and action movie star with a net worth of $5 million. Segal earned his net worth as an actor and one of the biggest actions stars of the 1980s and 90s. Steven was born on April 10th, 1952 in Lansing, Michigan. He lived there until he was five years old with his father who was a high school math teacher and his mother who was a medical technician. Segal began studying Shito-ryu karate and aikido as a child and when he was 17 he traveled to Japan for the first time. Steven wound up staying in Japan for 15 years where he became one of the first Americans to ever run a dojo in Japan. Segal eventually returned to The U.S. where he opened his own dojo in New Mexico. Soon after, Segal moved to California to open a new dojo in Burbank. Segal started making important Hollywood contacts who helped him land jobs as a martial arts co-coordinator for the films The Challenge and Never Say Never Again which starred Sean Connery. Segal quickly jumped from behind the camera to starring in his first major motion picture, 1987's "Above the Law". Segal followed that film up with three other hits. With three hit movies in a row Segal was now considered one of Hollywood's leading action stars. Segal would make his biggest hit with 1992's "Under Siege". The film would went on to earn $156.4 million worldwide. In 1994 Segal made his directorial debut with the movie "On Deadly Ground". The film (which he also co-starred) was a departure for Segal because it dealt heavily with spiritual and environmental issues. Steven's career has waned since his success in the 80s and 90s but he has appeared in a steady stream of straight to DVD films and even a few international theatrical releases. In 2001 Segal scored another big hit when he starred in "Exit Wounds". Exit Wounds was a huge success, grossing more than $80 million worldwide. In addition to acting and material arts, Segal is also a guitarist. He has released two albums which have featured songs with artist such as Stevie Wonder and Tony Rebel. He can currently been seen on his reality show Steven Segal: Lawman.
Steven Frederic Seagal (born April 10, 1952) is an American action film star, producer, writer, martial artist, guitarist and reserve deputy sheriff. A 7th-dan black belt in Aikido, Seagal began his adult life as an Aikido instructor in Japan. He became the first foreigner to operate an Aikido dojo in Japan.
He later moved to the Los Angeles, California, area where he made his film debut in 1988 in Above the Law. By 1991, he had starred in three successful films, and would go on to achieve greater fame in Under Siege (1992), where he played Navy SEALs counter-terrorist expert Casey Ryback. However both On Deadly Ground (1994, which he directed) and Under Siege 2: Dark Territory (1995) did poorly in theaters. During the later half of the 90s, he starred in three more theatrical films and a direct-to-video The Patriot. Aside from Exit Wounds (2001) and Half Past Dead (2002), his career shifted almost entirely to direct-to-video films (often low budget productions and shot in Europe or Asia). Between 1998 to 2009, he appeared in a total of 22 of these. At the age of 59, he returned to the big screen as Torrez in the 2010 film Machete. As of 2011, he's currently busy with the third season of his reality show Steven Seagal: Lawman.
Seagal is also a recording artist and guitarist and the founder of Steven Seagal Enterprises. In addition to his professional achievements, he is also known as an environmentalist, an animal rights activist and a supporter of the 14th Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso, and the Tibetan independence movement.
