It’s the last week in December, when according to tradition we make up a bunch of awards and hand them out to all the best, worst, and shitshowiest of things that happened in Los Angeles real estate, architecture, and neighborhoods this year. These are your 2012 Curbed Awards.Considering Bob Hope and Dick Clark were two of the more interesting names in celebrity real estate news this year, you might think 2012 was a snoozer. You would be wrong! (And have obviously not seen Clark’s crazy Flintstonesy bungalow in Malibu.) Here are the 10 loveliest and/or weirdest celebrity homes we saw this year, along with a few awards for the best in celebrity real estate.Celebrity of the Year (Deceased Category) Right at the end of 2012, several houses owned by Bob Hope and family hit the market (or were rumored to): his John Lautner in Palm Springs, his loooooong-held family estate in Toluca Lake, and two more modest houses in Palm Springs.Celebrity of the Year (Alive Category) Not only does Ellen DeGeneres buy and sell real estate like nobody’s business, she buys and sells celebrity real estate like nobody’s business. This year, she finally sold her Beverly Hills compound (to Ryan Seacrest), bought design elf Kelly Wearstler’s old house in in Beverly Hills, and flipped Brad Pitt’s old Malibu beach house, which she just bought at the end of 2011.Architect to the Stars of the Year Chronically underrated Hal Levitt finally got his year in the sun–Jennifer Aniston sold a Levitt last year and moved into a rented one this year, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi bought one in Beverly Hills, and Dexter’s Michael C. Hall sold Levitt’s own house in the Outpost Estates.Top 4 Celebrity PriceChoppers4. Dennis Hopper’s estate finally sold off his Venice compound in August for $5 million. It was first seen in July 2010 asking $6.245 million.3. In September, Mel Gibson sold off his Lavender Hill Farm (Lavender Hill Farm!) in Malibu for $9.26125 million. He first listed in March 2010 for $14.5 million.2. Technically, Rihanna sold her leaky Beverly Crest house on December 30 last year, but we’re including it anyway: she bought the place in 2009 for $6.9 million and sold for $5.03 million.1. The Holmby Hills house Michael Jackson was renting when he died sold after five years and millions in chops for $18.1 million. The owners, who have something to do with Ed Hardy, originally listed in 2008 for $38 million. · Curbed Awards 2012 [Curbed LA]
