Director Neill Blomkamp’s $115 million dystopian science fiction thriller Elysium starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster, opened in line with expectations, and topped the weekend box office with $30.5 million in its first week of release. While Elysium box office is still considered as somewhat modest for this action genre, it is estimated that Elysium box office can reach $400 million by late summer most probably in mid September.

For the weekend of August 11, 2013, Elysium scored an estimated weekend gross of $30.5 million domestically and $11 million internationally for a total of $41.5 million in world wide ticket sales from 18 territories.

For the weekend of August 18, 2013, Elysium is estimated to approach a weekly gross of $70 million domestically and $80 million internationally for a total of $150 million in world wide weekly ticket sales from more than 40 territories.  That would represent a cumulative worldwide Elysium box office gross of approximately $190 million by the end of August 18, 2013.

For the weekend of August 25, 2013, Elysium is estimated to approach a weekly gross of $30 million domestically and $50 million internationally for a total of $80 million in world wide weekly ticket sales from more than 40 territories.  That would represent a cumulative worldwide Elysium box office gross of approximately $270 million by the end of August 25, 2013.

For the weekend of September 01, 2013, Elysium is estimated to approach a weekly gross of $15 million domestically and $30 million internationally for a total of $45 million in world wide weekly ticket sales from more than 40 territories.  That would represent a cumulative worldwide Elysium box office gross of approximately $315 million by the end of Sept 01, 2013.

For the weekend of September 08, 2013, Elysium is estimated to approach a weekly gross of $10 million domestically and $20 million internationally for a total of $30 million in world wide weekly ticket sales from more than 40 territories.  That would represent a cumulative worldwide Elysium box office gross of approximately $345 million by the end of Sept 08, 2013.

For the weekend of September 15, 2013, Elysium is estimated to approach a weekly gross of $5 million domestically and $20 million internationally for a total of $25 million in world wide weekly ticket sales from more than 40 territories.  That would represent a cumulative worldwide Elysium box office gross of approximately $370 million by the end of Sept 15, 2013.
